The Twitter Phenomena

On July 16th, 2009 by cgoo

With the New York Times calling it “one of the fastest-growing phenomena on the Internet” and Newsweek saying “…it seems as though all the world’s a-twitter”, it’s no wonder people are gravitating towards social media sensation, Twitter . However, many of our clients still ask, what is it?

Wikipedia defines Twitter as “a free social media networking tool and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read each others’ updates, known as tweets.” Tweets are like condensed blog posts—they are limited to 140 characters.

Why do I need to ‘tweet’, you ask? Believe it or not, people want to hear what you’re saying. Whether you plan to use Twitter for personal or business use, giving people a glimpse into what you’re doing is less presumptuous than you think. There are numerous reasons to ‘tweet’—to get a quick news report, to ask questions about a product or place, to direct people to a website or blog, or simply to stay in touch.

I think there is one main Twitter use that you left out in this post: customer support/service. I am still trying to find out how to use Twitter to drive leads and it has been working (to an extent). The best use (as of right now) is customer support.

There is also the sharing of stories that makes Twitter powerful but the customer support component is extremely powerful
