The Tyranny of Email (reblog Creo Quality)

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Reblog from Creo Quality:

I caught about 10 minutes of NPR today. Author John Freeman was on the Diane Rehm show. Freeman was talking about his latest book, “The Tyranny of Email: The Four-Thousand-Year Journey to Your Inbox“. I have not read the book nor did I catch enough of the interview to comprehend the author’s point of view. However, Rehm offered a statistic that I think is remarkable: employees spend 40% of their work day dealing with emails.creoquality.com, The Tyranny of Email, Oct 2009

Pimp Your Twitter – Designing your Twitter Background Page

Friday, March 27th, 2009

There is no better way to test your web savviness than to navigate the latest social media craze—Twitter. For the newbies, and those of you who already tweet, here are a few pointers on how to customize your background page. Here are 9 steps to pimp your Twitter page:

1. Login to your Twitter page
2. Click on Settings (next to Profile and underneath your Twitter handle)
3. Click on the Design tab, and select ‘Change background image.’
4. Keep this window open, and open up a new tab to www.freetwitterdesigner.com
5. Select your theme…we went with the blank slate option to make our TFM logo pop!
6. Get to pimpin! This is your opportunity to get creative. You have a lot of options here with text, shapes, and images. I suggest switching the Twitter Overlay ‘On’ to get an idea of exactly what your site will look like. You can add a big logo image and stretch it over the entire page for maximum exposure.
7. When you’re satisfied with your image, click on ‘Generate Image’ to save.
8. Go back to your Twitter Settings page and use the ‘Browse’ tool to upload your image.
9. Save your settings to get a preview. To change your background, simply create a different image and re-upload!

We’ve Moved!

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

The Broad Ripple area of Indianapolis is artsy, funky, inspirational, fun and also the home of TFM’s new office! We’ve moved into the 2nd story of a building located right along one of ‘the Ripple’s’ main streets…College Avenue. The new space has 3 other tenants; Der Glass Werks, Experience the Village, and a Textile Artist named Janice. Each space has an open floor plan — our space has natural hardwood floors, huge windows, and a great view. We are excited to become an integral part of this cultural arts district and already feel the creative juices flowing! Stay tuned for details about an Open House in April 2009, but in the meantime, stop in and see us the next time you’re in the area!

“Is Good Enough Enough?” – Seth Godin

Monday, August 13th, 2007

“Most marketing efforts are projects in response to problems”, according to Seth Godin’s most recent blog, “Is Good Enough Enough?“.

I disagree.

Almost ALL marketing efforts are projects in response to problems. At TFM, we run into this on an almost daily basis. What we try to accomplish is convincing our clients that they must prepare ahead of time for these last ditch efforts to market themselves or be a presence in the next conference or trade show, etc.

Convincing clients that marketing is our friend and that planning ahead is not a waste of time or resources is a daunting task, let me tell you. But, if you are able to convince the client that a simple, yet elegant flyer or maybe a short-but-sweet postcard of some sort is good to have and spend money on now, you can work at a creative pace and produce a fantastic piece to be used for months to come.

What the client walks away with is a piece that was planned, well-thought out and simplistic (in a good way) that will speak volumes about their “MO” without the RUSH cost and creativity that is just “good enough”.

Branding is NOT Name Recognition

Friday, June 15th, 2007

Branding is often mistaken for name recognition, and blown off by most companies as a waste of money and time, but really branding means so much more than simple recognition of name and should be addressed in your marketing planning. I think the true definition of a brand is your company’s business strategy and the culture in which you promote your competitive advantages.

One of the important marketing tasks your company should address and readdress as you grow is your brand – how can you consistently and effectively promote your advantages and build your brand? Here are 8 quick tips to think about when going through that important exercise:

1. What do people think about your competition? You think you can do it better of course but what does the market think?

2. What is your biggest market differentiator? You need to know what to lead with.

3. What does each of your market segments really want? Your brand strategy can be different by segment. Don’t try to cram everything for every market in one message.

4. Is there a common buying pattern in each of your market segments or a mindset toward what you are offering? If so, what is it?

5. What type of experience do clients get when they sign with you? What type experience do you want them to have?

6. Are the messages you send to the market predictable, consistent and cohesive – presenting your company in the same manner, every time? People have very short memories and repetition is king.

7. Do you gather and measure feedback on lost as well as sold accounts? Why were you chosen or not chosen is important in building your position? Take this data and use it to build on what you do have and figure out what to do about what you don’t.

8. Does your company keep its promise? Keeping the promise you communicate is more important than any other media of communication.
